Fishing Report

Colin landed these lovely Snapper on the 15/12/2009. He caught the fish in the middle of the tide and used lots of burley to bring the fish to him....The best bait was squid and he fished out of the 4.3m stacer
Young Cam is still catching some nice squid and flathead from the kayaks, his favored spots are Red Bluff and Mills Beach.

Some great Squid are getting landed anglers fishing from Dromana to Mt Eliza are encountering specimens to 3kg. The best methods has been using size 2.0 to 3.0 prawn imitation jigs. For the boat hire guys try, mills beach, Fishermans beach and sunny side.

For the Snapper some good results are coming from 14 meters of water off Frankston and Mt Eliza. The best results are coming when anglers are sounding up the fish then holding them in the area with Burley. The best baits have then been Squid, Silver Whiting and Pilchards.

Garfish are getting caught in both the shallow water and out wide on the Snapper Grounds, as well as Mornington Pier. The key to success here is to use Burley a nice consistent fine mist should be flowing at all times. Best baits are Silverfish, Prawns and Pilchard gut.

Gummy Sharks are getting caught on the snapper grounds with some nice fish to 10kg getting landed. The best baits have been fresh Squid heads and Cuttlefish and the best times have been in the middle of the tide in Port Phillip bay and on the change of tide in Western Port Bay.

Good numbers of legal size flathead are getting landed off Mornington in 10-14 meters of water, the best bait has been squid and Blue Bait and the best method slowly drifting.

King George Whiting are starting to show on the Shallow reefs from Rosebud to Frankston in Port Phillip Bay and in the Channels and Flats of Western Port. Places worth an go are Hastings and Tyabb or Mornington and Safety Beach. Best baits are Marine Worms, Mussels, Pippies and Squid.

Australian Salmon are starting to show in Port Phillip Heads and a few schools are popping up between Mt Martha and Mt Eliza. The best method has been trawling and forget all the fancy stuff the humble 5 centimetre piece of Mc Donald's straw with a size 2/0 hook trawled at 3-5 knots is by far the best rig and method.

So what are you waiting for get on the water and get on the fish.
